In the 1998-1999 school year, there was no advanced art class at Rappahannock County High School. All the students took Art I, Art II and Art III in the same class. Through a grant from the Headwaters Foundation, this painting was created, allowing advanced students to gain experience in acrylic landscape painting. The rest of the students were invited to make the borders, which identify each of the subjects taught at the high school. The design of each rectangle is based on a flag also painted by the art students which went outside the classroom of that particular subject. The large words on top are "Education is the Handmaiden of Democracy" by Thomas Jefferson. The small words on the right are "This is a Place of Possibilities". There is a UFO in the upper right hand corner. 45 students helped to create the mural.
